The Old Carey Cricket Club is
excited to provide the opportunity for cricketers to develop their skills on
some of the best turf wickets in metropolitan cricket. Our Club is based at the
Carey Baptist Grammar School Sports Grounds in Bulleen.
The Old Carey Cricket Club is
a member of the Eastern Cricket Association, which is the largest cricket
association in Victoria and second largest in Australia. Our First XI has
remained competitive in Dunstan Shield (the highest level in the ECA) over the
past three years, and is looking to participate in finals in 2009/10. Our 2nd
XI and 3rd XI have both been competitive in D and F Grades and are
looking to improve their respective positions this season.
Carey Baptist Grammar School
and the Old Carey Grammarians Association (OCGA) have maintained their support
of the Club for over 50 years, and there remains a large number of past Carey
Grammarians who play for the club.
Whilst we would not be able to field competitive sides without the
exceptional support of the school and OCGA, it must also be mentioned that we
have players that come to us from outside of the Carey Community. As a club, we
fully support and embrace players from all backgrounds, including from country regions,
and are able to support young players from external schools who wish to develop
or improve their skills.
The Carey Sports grounds and
facilities are amongst the best in metropolitan Melbourne. We are privileged to
have an award-winning curator who works to provide us with a great surface to
play on each week. He has been named “Curator of the Year” for the past three
years and we are fortunate to be able to hone our skills on the wonderful turf
wickets he prepares for us.
Through the OCGA we are also
able to utilise the other facilities that our sports grounds have on offer
including a swimming pool and gymnasium.
Our club ethos is built upon
respect, opportunity and a fair go. We strive to provide all players with an
opportunity to both enjoy and improve their cricket. Our First XI has remained
competitive whilst maintaining optimal enjoyment for its team members. Our
lower grades are renowned for providing all players, regardless of their skill
level, the opportunity to play enjoyable and competitive cricket.
Throughout our history, we
have had many young players who have gone on to become exceptionally skilled
cricketers in their own right. Because of the spirit of our club, we have also
witnessed many father/son combinations that have been able to enjoy the honour
of playing in the same side together.
The 2009/10 season is fast
approaching and the club has begun pre season training. Pre season consists of
two sessions per week, one outdoor at the Bulleen Sporting Complex on Sundays
and one indoor at the Monash Cricket Centre in Clayton on Tuesdays or
Wednesdays. Please refer to our website (http://ocgaclubs.carey.com.au/cricket.html)
for pre season schedule for complete details of times and training venues.
