Old Carey Athletics Club Incorporated
HISTORY OF THE APSOC AND OLD CAREY XC CLUB
The
APS Cross Country Association has been going for over 70 years with the
first race being conducted at Brighton Beach in 1927 after the
formation of Old Scotch and Old Melburnians. Although venues and races
have changed over the years, the competition has continued to grow as
new clubs have formed and joined the Association. Old Carey runners
have been participating in the competition on an individual basis since
1963, the year when the Old Carey Athletic (Summer Track) Club
commenced. The Cross Country Club first competed as a team in 1975,
and, despite the demise of the Summer Track Club in the early 1980s,
the Club has continued to field individual runners as well as both
men’s (open) and women’s teams in the competition.
